A Tragic Announcement from Maureen

“We have been through difficult times at HOPE over the years, this is the absolute worst of them. On Sunday 11th October, in complete shock and devastation, we announced the untimely and sudden death of our beloved Geeta Venkadakrishnan. There will never be anyone like Geeta, this loss is almost impossible for us to put into words. She was the most special of human beings. Our hearts are absolutely breaking as we write this.

Geeta had been privately battling Covid 19 recently. We were respecting her request for privacy, we had been monitoring her progress while quietly praying for her speedy recovery. Up until the morning of Sunday 11th October Geeta was recovering and we were all hopeful, but as a result of a massive heart attack she tragically died that afternoon.

There are no words that can express our deep anguish and sorrow for the enormity of this tragic loss. Geeta has been a special friend to me for 21 years and a special friend to the HOPE family. To her HOPE family all over the world, many of you met her and loved her, everyone knew her big heart and will mourn her loss with us all. We are especially thinking of her beloved HOPE children who will be heartbroken.

Our deepest sympathy is with her husband Ravi and her son Harish, her family and her close friends, colleagues as they try to come to terms with such a tragic loss.”

Geeta dedicated her life to her work, her passion never wavered, she never stopped, so neither will we. We have to continue, in her memory. If you wish to honour Geeta you can donate to HOPE in her memory to help us continue her mission. Geeta, we will remember you and honour you in carrying on your work with your beloved children.

I have been working with Geeta since 2003. During the last 17 years I have seen Geeta strive for the best. Her contribution to Hope Foundation is a legacy we can never forget. We all feel lost and heartbroken at her sudden demise. Geeta will always be in our hearts and will continue to inspire us in fulfilling her aspirations. Today as everything seems bleak I pray that her soul finds eternal peace.

I still remember meeting Ms. Geeta for the first time in 2014 at our Conference Room. It was her passion and concern for the society that drove our company to form such a long term association with the beloved 'Hope Foundation'. She was always so humble and looked after the kids as her own children. I cannot believe that she is no longer with us. I hope that she rests in peace and we all should try to honour her memory by looking after the children and giving her best efforts in making society a better place.

I will never forget how happy Geeta was to see snow on her visit to NYC. She was so excited to be able to make a snowball and take part in a snowball fight on Park Avenue, a true joy to watch. (February 2019.) One of my fondest memories of Geeta.
We will all miss you. ???

A special lady who personified love, courage, sacrifice and determination. Someone who, despite only spending a short period of time together at the Street Child Cricket World Cup in London, had a significant impact on me and my outlook on life. Thank you Geeta, for leading the fight for street-connected young people. You made the world a better place.

When I arrived in Kolkata in 2008 to volunteer in the Hope office I had the pleasure of meeting Geeta in the Panditya office. Over the course of my time there, Geeta was kind and encouraging to me and had the best smile! Thank you Geeta for being you and for your unending support for your community. RIP Geeta.

We are all extremely shocked!!! Beyond words. Some beings have the earth journey for a specific cause only. Geeta was one of them. Relentlessly worked to serve the most affected hands down.

Our heartfelt condolences on this irreparable loss. Please be strong and take it as His call. Moments like these we can do nothing except bow our heads in acceptance.
Will deeply miss her. Have worked so closely with her and we also chatted for a long time about 3 months ago. Had called her on watching her on Facebook working relentlessly. She was a rock of support to the downtrodden.

A pro at running Hope Foundation and is a huge loss.

May she be in peace❤️. Will miss you Geeta. Sure you will carry on spreading your sunshine.

Om Shanti?

We all, the SICW family reach out to you all , our Hope Foundation family in sharing this tragic moment. Our heartfelt condolences to her family too.

Please take care of yourselves.

Warm Regards

Dear Maureen, Jenny and the Hope Family,

We were shocked and devastated on hearing of Geeta’s untimely passing. A beacon of hope, a pillar of strength with a heart full of compassion, Geeta will always remain an inspiration. She dedicated her life to countless children and communities, a service she rendered with utmost commitment and love. Snatched away too soon, her going is a loss not only to Hope, but to all of us who knew her. She will continue to live on through her work and will be remembered forever.

Our deepest condolences to her family and all of you at HKF, for strength to bear the irreparable void Geeta has left behind. May she forever rest in peace.

Last night I saw the tragic news about Geeta on LinkedIn. I am so so sorry for your loss and am devastated. Of course personally, but more so for the thousands of children and young adults who saw her as a mother. How cruel this virus is.

Please please let me know how I can help you, HOPE and everyone through this. And, if there is a memorial service in Ireland – and numbers permit – I would like to be there.

My very best wishes,

Ed x
