A Tragic Announcement from Maureen
“We have been through difficult times at HOPE over the years, this is the absolute worst of them. On Sunday 11th October, in complete shock and devastation, we announced the untimely and sudden death of our beloved Geeta Venkadakrishnan. There will never be anyone like Geeta, this loss is almost impossible for us to put into words. She was the most special of human beings. Our hearts are absolutely breaking as we write this.
Geeta had been privately battling Covid 19 recently. We were respecting her request for privacy, we had been monitoring her progress while quietly praying for her speedy recovery. Up until the morning of Sunday 11th October Geeta was recovering and we were all hopeful, but as a result of a massive heart attack she tragically died that afternoon.
There are no words that can express our deep anguish and sorrow for the enormity of this tragic loss. Geeta has been a special friend to me for 21 years and a special friend to the HOPE family. To her HOPE family all over the world, many of you met her and loved her, everyone knew her big heart and will mourn her loss with us all. We are especially thinking of her beloved HOPE children who will be heartbroken.
Our deepest sympathy is with her husband Ravi and her son Harish, her family and her close friends, colleagues as they try to come to terms with such a tragic loss.”
Geeta dedicated her life to her work, her passion never wavered, she never stopped, so neither will we. We have to continue, in her memory. If you wish to honour Geeta you can donate to HOPE in her memory to help us continue her mission. Geeta, we will remember you and honour you in carrying on your work with your beloved children.

A great sadness has descended over the HOPE family of your tragic loss. You will be so missed. Condolences to your beautiful family. May you rest peacefully in your heavenly home, heaven is lucky to have received another angel

Desperately saddened to hear the news of the passing of such a titan for the work of HOPE. Visiting Kolkata and seeing up close the incredible work that HOPE does protecting the precious children was both heartbreaking and uplifting – and Geeta's incredible leadership was so central to that. But more than just her work, Geeta was a kind and beautiful woman who will be missed by all those who knew her.

Deeply saddened at the news of Geeta's passing. She was a breath of fresh air amid the difficult environment that is Kolkata. Her talks in school when visiting Ireland were inspirational and uplifting. Sincere sympathy to her family and indeed the wider Hope family.

Very sad news. The untimely death of Geeta Venkadakrishnan is a great loss to the society. It is replaceable loss. May Her departed soul rest in heavenly peace.???

I am deeply saddned and completely shocked by Geeta's demise. I cannot believe that I have to write an obituary for a dear friend, a collaborator and a well wisher. She touched so many hearts and so many lives. So many underprivileged people have a better life due to her dedication and hard work. Her loss will be felt for a long time.

My heart goes out to Geeta's family and close friends at this very sad time. The circumstances of the loss of this special lady are truly tragic. Thinking of everyone in India at this difficult time ? x.

My dearest Geeta,
You are a champion for the poor and you have touched so many lives and have such a positive influence on everyone who you encountered. You will be greatly missed, but your spirit will forever live in the children you have helped and all the people lucky enough to have gotten to know you. You are in my thoughts and prayers and my deepest condolences to your family and your HOPE family. You are a champion and a great gift to humanity. We may have lost a dear friend, a mother, and a protector of the poor, but somewhere up there, a beautiful angel watches over us.

I shall ever remain grateful to Geeta Venkadakrishnan for bringing back an orphan boy from devastation to the mainstream of life at the request of an unknown person through mail . I shall remember her humane approach which will ever be cherished in my life . Loss of Geeta is a great loss to a large section of suffering people . The best tribute to her will be to carry forward her mission through Hope Foundation . I am deeply saddened for her untimely demise at this grave hour when she was needed most . With heavy heart, I pay my deep regards to Geeta.

Dear Geeta, RIP
The world sees very few people such as you who dedicate their lives so tirelessly and admirably to help other people. I am utterly in awe of the work you have done for the people of Kolkata, it is a massive understatement to say that you will be missed. Definitely by those people whose lives you made better, by those people who supported the great work that you performed but mostly you will be missed by those people in the future whose lives will not be touched by your kindness and strength.
Your passing is of great sadness for many.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sending our Deepest Condolences to the family, friends and colleagues on the passing of Geeta. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this hard time, Rest in Peace.

My most sincere condolences to the family of Geeta – her husband Ravi and son Harish.
It is a tribute to her that when we say "family" it can also extend to all the children at Hope that she cared for, the staff that she worked with and all the volunteers and students that she welcomed and made feel part of the Hope team.
I was lucky enough to work with Geeta for 5 years in Kolkata and she would always meet you with a smile and an interest in how you were getting on. Her laugh was infectious and her interest sincere.
We revere people from the past who have accomplished great things but rarely do we realize the scope of these achievements while they are with us. As people reflect now, I am sure that Geeta's work and life with her "family" will receive the recognition that it deserves.
She was an extra special wife, mother, colleague and friend and we are all going to miss her very much.

My compatriot, companion and sister in arm for over 21 years….my colleague at Hope Foundation Kolkata is no more! Her passion and zeal for the care of the children was unparalleled . I will miss that dazzling presence and smile ..I will miss her solution for any problem. Take rest, sister! Yours, Joy da.

Dear Geeta, You were always such a fun, capable person with a charming smile and semi-permanent wink in your eye! I recall the many occasions (almost yearly, since 2006) when you welcomed Educo colleagues and donors (Educo gave the Lifeskills Building which Geeta and Hope so successfully run to give vocational/lifeskills to so many young adults each year). Geeta, you would arrange our visits and show us around, opening our eyes to the potential being achieved from the inauspicious gutters, sewers and slums. This time last year, it was (as ever) inspiring to see your teachers educating children, medics caring for the sick in your hospital. You were a great life force of energy and warmth and can-do approach.
My heartfelt condolences to the Venkadakrishnan and Hope families.
May your enthusiasm and warmth continue to be closely felt by your family long into the future.
