The Hope Foundation’s Founder and Honorary Director, Maureen Forrest was honoured to receive an invitation to attend a Garden Party with President Michael D. Higgins in the Áras an Uachtaráin on Jun 9th. The theme of the Garden Party was to acknowledge and celebrate individuals and organisations working to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) which were agreed upon in late 2015.
The SDG’s are a set of 17 goals and 169 targets that aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all, leaving no one behind, by the year 2030. These goals involve both the collaborative effort of developed and developing nations to achieve a more equal and fair world, while also caring for the environment.

By empowering whole communities to break the cycle of poverty, the communities are building brighter and more sustainable futures for generations to follow. Our programme areas in child protection, healthcare & nutrition, education, life skills & vocational training, awareness & capacity building and emergency response are directly addressing at least 9 of the 17 Goals, including Goal #1- No Poverty, Goal #4- Quality Education, Goal #5- Gender Equality, Goal #8- Decent Work Growth, and Goal #10- Reduced Inequalities.
It was an honour for The Hope Foundation to be recognised by President Higgins, and to share the experience with so many wonderful individuals, NGO’s and businesses who are also committed to achieving the “17 Goals to Transform our World”. You can listed to the speech given by President Higgins on the day below.
