Ahead of the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup, 10 teams of street girls and boys from across the world have an amazing opportunity to go to London to compete in their own Cricket World Cup event (SCCWC), from 30th April to 7th May. The Hope Foundation has been invited to bring a team of street connected children who are in our care from Kolkata, to represent India.
As well as being an exciting sports event that will attract global media attention, SCCWC will provide an international platform to raise awareness of, and tackle the stigma and negative treatment often faced by street connected children. The young people selected to participate will have a unique opportunity to build their confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, and most importantly, will be given a voice for street children worldwide.
Speaking of the opportunity Geeta Venkadakrishnan, Director Hope Kolkata Foundation said:
“For the last 20 years The Hope Foundation has invested in the protection and education of children living on the streets and in the slum communities, we have helped over 55,000 children through education projects alone. Their rights, needs and potential are at the heart of all of our work. We are very proud partners of the Street Child Cricket World Cup which will be a platform to recognise the voices and dreams of these vulnerable children. The event is a opportunity to raise awareness of the child’s right to belong to their own community, to the global community and to live life to their full potential.”
The SCCWC will enable HOPE to showcase the fantastic work we do for these vulnerable street connected children.
