During the season of hope, as Dickens called it, we have a beautiful heartwarming story to tell you which embodies Christmas Spirit like no other.
Suzanne Cairns visited the HOPE hospital in November 2018 with Specsavers Ireland where a little girl (Rakhi) and her 16 year old mum Priyanka stole her heart.
As she held the very gorgeous and tiny baby Rakhi, she listened and learned that both mother and child were both rescued from the streets by the HOPE Nightwatch team. At the time Priyanka was extremely ill with TB. Counsellors then discovered her sad history, at just 14 she had married and became the victim of domestic violence. She was ill, a young mum, living on the dangerous streets with her child. She needed help, and she needed hope, and there was Suzanne!
Suzanne was so moved and filled with such love for these two ladies that she made a decision which will have saved and changed two lives forever! Suzanne is paying for Priyanka’s TB treatment in the hospital and the subsequent medicine needed for the next 6 months to make sure that the TB does not return. Her generosity did not stop there, she is also going to sponsor mum Priynaka’s costs of 21 euro per month where she will attend the HOPE Lifeskill Educational Centre and receive training to help her locate a job and provide for her little girl.
We have a feeling that Suzanne will be visiting Kolkata again next year and will once again meet the two ladies who stole her heart.
Suzanne, we made a wish, and YOU came true! Priyanka and Rakhi have a future because of your kind heart and we could not think of a better Christmas story. We think the photos say it all!
Priyanka and Rakhi (names have been changed to protect their identity) will spend Christmas at the HOPE Mother and Child Unit where they will be safe and cared for.
